Dark Souls II

Dark Souls II (PS3, 2014) is a divisive but rewarding sequel that expands the series’ brutal RPG formula with new mechanics like power stances and adaptability, set in the hauntingly beautiful kingdom of Drangleic. While its level design lacks the interconnected brilliance of the original, the diverse builds, memorable boss fights (Fume Knight, Sir Alonne), and NG+ surprises (red phantom invaders, new items) add depth. The PS3 version runs smoothly, though Scholar of the First Sin (PS4/PC) refined the experience later.
