The PlayStation 2 Fat is the iconic, original design of the world’s best-selling home console. Released in 2000, it features a distinctive, bulky, black vertical-standing or horizontal-lying chassis with a front-loading disc tray. The PS2 Fat’s main selling points were its powerful Emotion Engine CPU and its integrated DVD player, which provided affordable multimedia capabilities that were revolutionary at the time. Crucially for enthusiasts, the “Fat” models are the only ones that feature an expansion bay for an optional internal Hard Disk Drive (HDD), making them the preferred choice for retro gaming mods and enhanced functionality. It also retained full backward compatibility with the entire PlayStation 1 library.
