Sonic Shuffle

Sonic Shuffle is the Dreamcast’s ambitious foray into the multiplayer party game genre, putting a unique, strategic spin on the classic board game format. Instead of a simple dice roll, your movement across the vividly cel-shaded boards—which look like a fantastical, dream-like cartoon—is determined by playing cards from a secret hand, visible only on your controller’s VMU screen. This card system adds a layer of planning and risk, as you can also choose to steal a card from another player’s hidden hand. The goal is to traverse bizarre, dynamic boards based on Sonic locations, collecting Precioustones to restore the shattered dream world of Maginaryworld. While it has a fun and chaotic multiplayer spirit, with over 50 varied mini-games and an eccentric story, its biggest challenge is the pacing, as lengthy loading times between the board and the mini-games can sometimes disrupt the flow of the party.
